Mastercard is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer II to join our Track BizOps team in Pune, Maharashtra. This role is pivotal in solving complex problems, enhancing our CI/CD pipeline, and championing DevOps automation and best practices across the organization.

As a Site Reliability Engineer II, you will be a production readiness steward, partnering closely with developers to design, build, implement, and support technology services. Your responsibilities will include ensuring system availability, capacity, performance, robust monitoring, self-healing capabilities, and deployment automation are integrated throughout the delivery lifecycle.

We focus on transforming operations by supporting daily activities with an emphasis on triage and root cause analysis, always considering the business impact of our products. Our goal is to 'shift left,' becoming more proactive in the development process and managing production and change activities to maximize customer experience and application value. Risk management, compliance, and mitigation are integral to our approach, alongside streamlining support activities and centralizing interaction points for stakeholders.

Ultimately, this role bridges Product and Customer-focused priorities with Operational needs, providing valuable feedback to development partners to enhance customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and improve the entire service lifecycle, from inception and design to deployment, operation, and refinement.
  • Analyze ITSM activities and provide feedback on operational gaps and resiliency concerns to development teams.
  • Support services pre-launch through system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
  • Maintain live services by monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
  • Drive sustainable system scaling through automation and evolve systems to improve reliability and velocity.
  • Support and validate the application CI/CD pipeline, ensuring operational gating and leading DevOps automation initiatives.
  • Practice sustainable incident response and conduct blameless postmortems.
  • Employ a holistic approach to problem-solving during production events, optimizing mean time to recover.
  • Collaborate with a global team across multiple geographies and time zones.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior team members.

DevOps Pipeline Focus:

  • Design, implement, and enhance deployment automation using Chef, including writing recipes/cookbooks and defining an overall Chef-based release process.
  • Utilize Jenkins to orchestrate builds and integrate with tools like Sonar, Chef, Maven, and Artifactory to build out the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Support code deployments across multiple lower environments, with a strong emphasis on automation.
  • Design and implement a Git-based code management strategy for parallel environment deployments, with a plus for automation experience in branch management, code promotions, and version management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., physics, mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, scripting, pipeline management, and software design.
  • Systematic problem-solving skills, strong communication, ownership, and drive.
  • Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
  • Experience handling challenging situations and making urgent decisions.
  • Experience in one or more of the following languages is preferred: C, C++, Java, Python, Go, Perl, or Ruby.
  • Interest in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working across development, operations, and product teams to prioritize needs and build relationships.
  • For DevOps roles: Experience with industry-standard CI/CD tools such as Git/BitBucket, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory, and Chef. Proven ability to design and implement an efficient CI/CD flow from development to production with high quality and minimal manual effort is required.
