Site Reliability Engineer

As a Site Reliability Engineer - I, with a Product Area Focus at Sumo Logic in Noida, India, you will be instrumental in maintaining the availability of our planet-scale observability and security products, which is our most critical product feature. You will collaborate with a global SRE team to execute on a reliability roadmap specific to your product area. Your work will optimize operations, enhance cloud resource efficiency, and improve developer productivity. You will also strengthen our security posture and accelerate feature delivery by working closely with various teams to optimize their microservices and improve the daily lives of engineers within your supported product areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support product area engineering teams by maintaining and executing a reliability roadmap focused on improvements in reliability, maintainability, security, efficiency, and velocity.
• Collaborate with development infrastructure, Global SRE, and product area engineering teams to define and refine the reliability roadmap.
• Participate in defining, evolving, and managing Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for multiple teams within your product area.
• Engage in on-call rotations within your product area to understand operational workloads, with the goal of improving the on-call experience and reducing operational burden for microservices and related components.
• Complete projects aimed at optimizing and tuning the on-call experience for your engineering teams.
• Develop code and automation to reduce operational workload, boost efficiency, enhance security, eliminate toil, and enable faster feature delivery for Sumo Logic developers.
• Work with developer infrastructure teams to accelerate the adoption of tools that advance your reliability roadmap, identifying needs for supported engineering teams and contributing features or bug fixes.
• Scale systems sustainably through automation and evolve systems by driving changes that improve reliability and velocity.
• Lead root cause analysis and issue resolution efforts with supported teams.
• Operate effectively within a fast-paced, iterative development environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience in cloud-native application development, utilizing best practices and design patterns.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack.
• Proficiency in understanding AWS Networking, Compute, Storage, and managed services.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD tooling, including Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using technologies like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Proficiency with Linux systems and command-line operations.
• A strong willingness to learn and apply Sumo Logic products to address reliability and security challenges.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific or technical field.
• 0-1 years of industry experience.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience using Sumo Logic products or other observability tools for reliability and security initiatives.
• Experience with planet-scale product development.
• Expert-level proficiency in running and operating SaaS products on AWS Cloud.
• Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kafka Streams, or KSQL.
• Advanced-level experience in one or more programming languages: Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
• Advanced-level experience in one or more tools: Terraform, Jenkins, Kubernetes.
• Extensive experience in running and tuning JVM workloads at scale.
