Site Operations Engineer

Join PayPal's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team dedicated to creating the most reliable commerce platform globally. As part of a new SRE organization focused on merchant experience, you will engineer AI-driven reliability platforms to measure, monitor, and protect user transactions.

This role involves working directly with Product Development teams to enhance merchant outcomes through features, operations, and reliability engineering. You will quickly learn to triage and remediate production system and application incidents while practicing balanced incident response.

Your responsibilities include being a first responder for our systems and applications on a shift-based schedule, facilitating constructive retrospective sessions to improve operational response lifecycles, and ensuring proper documentation of incidents for our reliability platforms. You will also develop and improve production monitoring and management capabilities, escalate and resolve critical site incidents, and be instrumental in reducing and eliminating issues affecting merchant experience.

We require 8+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, a desire to be part of a shift-based team, and proficiency in Python or other standard development languages like Java or Node. Strong experience with monitoring applications such as Splunk/DataDog, a solid understanding of networking principles, internet fundamentals, operating systems, and application stacks, along with comfort using the Linux command line, are essential. Experience with GitOps/Operations as Code, including Terraform and Artifactory, is preferred. Experience with GCP and related services is a strong plus.
