About The Team: Infrastructure Engineering is dedicated to maintaining a highly reliable, observable, performant, and secure network ecosystem. Our systems empower customers to safely modify, troubleshoot, and release products without causing external disruptions. We ensure seamless and predictable incident management, traffic control, and policy enforcement, delivering the fastest and safest network services globally. We are responsible for the overall performance of internal and external services, guiding product teams toward optimal configurations and maximum efficiency. From packet ingress, we precisely define expected behavior and identify anomalies.

What You’ll Do:

• Develop software to enhance Cloudflare's Edge platform.
• Scale and evolve large-scale systems through software and automation, improving reliability and velocity.
• Maintain and manage distributed systems, participating in on-call rotations for the world's largest distributed edge system.
• Collaborate with engineers to design and implement scalable solutions for a growing user base.
• Mentor and share knowledge within the team.
• Research and adopt cutting-edge technologies, developing and maintaining sustainable, large-scale tools.
• Contribute to open-source projects.

This systems reliability engineering role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team, support Cloudflare's mission, and help build a better internet. You will develop services and APIs to continuously improve availability, performance, and uptime.

Candidate Profile:

• Up to 8 years of experience managing distributed systems.
• Proficiency in distributed Linux/Unix environments.
• Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Golang or Python.
• Proficiency in configuration management tools (e.g., Saltstack, Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
• Expertise in networking protocols from Layer 3 to Layer 7 of the OSI model.
• Experience in performance analysis, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with SQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL).
• Experience participating in on-call rotations for high-priority reliability objectives.
• Experience with load balancing and reverse proxies (e.g., Nginx).
• Familiarity with Key/Value stores (e.g., Redis).
• Familiarity with Internet networking and BGP.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong bias for action.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
• Experience working in a 24/7/365 service environment.
• Experience with high-bandwidth transit internetworking and routing.
• Passion for tooling and automation.
