Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build and own Securly's edge proxy appliance—a virtual containerized appliance deployed into customers' school networks. You will handle traffic interception, inspection, filtering, safe updates without downtime, failover logic, and reporting back to our AWS control plane.
Location & Status
- Type: Full-time, direct hire hybrid role based in Pune, India (on-site)
Key Responsibilities
- Own the entire lifecycle of the proxy appliance: datapath, packaging, shipping, self-updating, safe failure modes, and fleet telemetry.
- Develop high-performance networking code below the HTTP layer using Rust (preferred), C/C++, or Go. Focus on TCP streams, sockets, TPROXY, TLS inspection, and Linux network stack tuning.
- Create containerized solutions with Docker images and minimal immutable OS images for customer deployment.
- Implement Zero-downtime OTA updates via A/B swaps, health-check rollbacks, and canary deployments to appliances you cannot directly log into remotely.
- Design high-availability systems including watchdogs, VRRP/CARP failover, and bypass logic to ensure internet access persists if the appliance fails (fail-open).
- Ensure security hardening against tampering in environments not owned by Securly.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience in systems, networking, or security products shipped to customers.
- Production expertise in Rust (async/Tokio), C/C++, or Go. Strong preference for production-level Rust knowledge.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- eBPF/XDP and netfilter networking on Linux kernel
- Familiarity with HAProxy, Envoy, Load Balancers, VPN gateways, or Secure Web Gateways (SWG)
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) and AWS experience
- Messaging protocols: gRPC over mTLS, MQTT, AWS IoT Core
- Fleet management at scale and observability tools like CloudWatch/Splunk
