Senior Staff Software Engineer

About the Job

We are a UK-based startup, backed by ex-Meta/Google founding team members, on a mission to make the national lottery more affordable, social, and enjoyable. As an early-stage, fast-moving company focused on building a category-defining product, we have developed an MVP and now seek an exceptional Senior Staff Software Engineer to rebuild, enhance, and scale it effectively. Please note: This role is equity-only, with no salary offered.

Role Responsibilities:

• End-to-end ownership of system architecture.
• Transform the MVP into a scalable, production-grade system.
• Develop core systems including payments, wallets, subscriptions, and group logic.
• Lead a small, high-caliber engineering team.
• Remain hands-on across both backend and frontend development.

Requirements:

• A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics (or equivalent) from one of the top 5 Indian universities.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
• Essential architecture design skills.
• 7-10 years of experience in a product company, ideally within fintech or e-commerce.
• Over 10 years of experience with scalable and reliable systems.
• Experience with payments, billing, or subscription systems is highly desirable.
• Full-stack capabilities with Node.js and React.
• DevOps experience, including CI/CD, deployment strategies, and infrastructure considerations.
• Proven ability to operate at a Staff or Principal engineering level.
