Senior Staff Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Staff Backend Engineer to own the core services at the heart of our platform—the critical data-intensive computation layer that transforms curated financial and operational data into correct, reproducible, and fully traceable results. This role focuses on structured engineering beneath the product surface: building the robust services that compute every number delivered by the platform.

What You Will Do

• Create Reusable Architecture: Build configuration-driven computation components and enforce strong controls over automated output to guarantee result reconciliation.
• Data Integrity & Auditing: Ensure every result is traceable to its source, reproducible, and auditable. Maintain clear guardrails separating verifiable results from those requiring human review—never compromising on mathematical accuracy.
• Tech Leadership: Provide technical leadership for the backend team, partner with data, AI, and product teams, translate domain logic into robust services, set patterns, review designs, and mentor engineers.

Mandatory Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years of backend engineering in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages with significant Staff-level experience owning complex data-intensive systems.
• Production Quality: Strong proficiency in production-grade Python with excellent service design and testing practices.
• Data Mastery: Elite SQL skills including window functions and large-scale joins; rigorous reasoning about correctness, performance, and set-based reproducible computation over Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
• Architecture: Experience designing extensible services or rules engines where new use cases ship via configuration rather than code changes.

Nice-to-Haves

• Finance, accounting, or analytics domain experience; curiosity about financial statement reconciliation.
• Experience with dbt alongside Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
• Multitenant or on-premises deployment knowledge across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Via Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, audit logging, data lineage systems, or feature flags.
