Senior Staff

We are seeking an experienced and passionate engineering leader to join Coupang in Bengaluru. This role will champion the design and development of our services, drive alignment with leadership and stakeholders, influence and build trust with teams, and execute the delivery of complex systems with a focus on scalability, future extensibility, and reliability.

You will contribute to building world-class systems and bringing innovations to our complex distributed back-end systems. This position requires out-of-the-box thinking to simplify technical complexity and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

The Global Transportation Technology team at Coupang is focused on developing technology solutions that provide the most efficient, flexible, reliable, and resilient delivery experience for our customers and drivers. As the technology provider for most of Coupang’s deliveries, we are committed to continuous improvement through operational and engineering excellence.

What You Will Do:

• Lead architecture design for scalable, extensible, and reliable systems in Post Purchase & LFS.
• Align technology roadmaps with leadership and stakeholders.
• Remove technical blockers and simplify complex problems into actionable solutions.
• Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions, providing mechanisms for teams to prioritize ruthlessly and “Move with Urgency.”
• Write code when needed to guide teams and support high-priority initiatives.
• Identify business and tech opportunities; evaluate and adopt new technologies.
• Recruit, mentor, and grow top-tier engineering talent.

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 15+ years in software development, with a strong record of delivering impactful, large-scale systems.
• 7+ years building and operating backend services and web applications.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, storage, data processing, and server technologies.
• Strong coding skills in Java and Spring Framework; object-oriented design.
• Experience driving improvements in code quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AWS-based service development and operations.
• Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Angular).
• Experience with ORM tools (JPA, Hibernate), domain modeling.
• Experience with NoSQL and relational/columnar databases.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD automation, and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with logistics-related service development.

This is a hybrid role, requiring at least 3 days in the office per week in Bengaluru, with flexibility for 2 days of remote work.
