Senior Software Engineer - Java
OEConnection is seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with a specialization in Java to join our dynamic team in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This full-time position offers a hybrid working model and a collaborative workspace designed to foster innovation and creativity.
Job Summary and Objective
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will supervise the day-to-day operations of the Application Development EU team, guiding them through the entire development lifecycle from design to delivery and maintenance. You will collaborate closely with architects on technical vision and design, ensuring its effective implementation by project teams. You will also partner with management to initiate projects, define scope, assess capacity, and establish timelines.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervise and guide the Application Development EU team, driving departmental procedures and processes, motivating staff, identifying and removing obstacles, assigning tasks, and ensuring effective communication.
- Participate in the interview and selection process, influencing staffing plans, and providing comprehensive orientation and onboarding for new team members.
- Serve as a technical liaison between Development, Application Management, and other company departments to support specific product lines.
- Oversee project development activities, including resource requirement identification and risk quantification for contingency planning.
- Lead coding concept discussions and promote code reuse opportunities.
- Interact regularly with functional teams such as Marketing, Product, Customer Care, and Quality to gather and disseminate information regarding product builds and progress.
- Execute test procedures according to test plans, identify problems, perform unit and integration testing, and conduct bug verification, release testing, and support for assigned products.
- Write module-level implementation and test specifications, track key activities, and produce comprehensive software documentation.
- Coordinate production deployments across multiple teams, assess impact, and communicate effectively to mitigate risks.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Equivalent work experience directly related to the key responsibilities will be considered as a substitute for a degree.
- At least 6 years of experience in writing highly complex code and translating customer requirements into technical specifications.
- Proven background in leading design, estimating, scope, timing, and capacity activities involving cross-functional technology and business teams.
- Prior experience with hiring and coaching new team members.
- Experience with code inspection tools.
- Demonstrated success working across technical, business, and product teams to achieve optimal results.
- Proficiency in Core Java (8+), Springboot, Microservices, React, SQL, AWS/Azure, Docker, basic shell scripting, design patterns, HLD and LLD, and Groovy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify complex production problems and propose effective resolutions.
- Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams, empowering them to achieve excellent results.
- A collaborative work approach and excellent business acumen, with the ability to understand the big picture.
- Strong understanding of OEC products and solutions.
- Ability to work proactively and independently, taking ownership of team deliverables.
