Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

You will own one or more significant services in the messaging path end to end covering design implementation automated tests monitoring behavior production modernization incremental migration coexistence rollback paths SRE tooling incident response technical estimates risk communication code review mentoring RFC process quality productivity team responsibility.

The system carries years of history queue driven pipelines multi cloud delivery carriers inbox providers not controlled established baseline sudden traffic spikes hundreds thousands recipients minutes. Modernization underway while platform runs full volume.

Position based India joining six engineers working colleagues United States Poland spanning time zones writing decisions visible getting unblocked matters more than one room sitting.

Core Responsibilities

• Own services end to end design implementation automated tests monitoring production behavior fragile areas better coverage observability debt retirement documentation SRE tooling building incidents without waiting turning into test alert fix smaller next time estimates communicate technical schedule risk early flag undocumented parts review designs code mentor less experienced engineers RFC process responsibility team quality productivity beyond assigned work.
• Make delivery observable answer what sent arrived did not why quickly jump in during incidents turn each incident into improvement make system more resilient afterward modernization survive contact existing favor incremental migration coexistence rollback paths over parallel rewrite bring SRE design time rather than deploy build on tooling they provide dependable during incidents areas without waiting asked.

Qualifications Required

• Seven or more years building production backend software including services meaningful volume operating own services instrumented called fixed themselves comfort established codebase did not write behavior fully documented ability work out system does before change practical experience asynchronous queue driven event driven systems failure modes retries duplicates backpressure partial failure out of order delivery automated testing normal part written communication English track record progress across time zones rather than waiting next overlap window based India regular working overlap Europe United States.

Preferred Skills

• Messaging notification or delivery infrastructure scale covering email SMS voice push deliverability throttling provider limits managed cloud messaging serverless building blocks hosted queues pub sub event driven compute NoSQL data stores any major cloud provider Kubernetes infrastructure as code comfort operating multi cloud environment experience C or C alongside higher level language such as Python instrumenting system little observability building alerts team comes trust incremental modernization running system strangler patterns coexistence migration without freeze raising technical bar team through mentoring review improving shared practice fluency AI assisted development tools judgment where help experience building software failure consequences people using it.
