Senior Software Engineer

BigStep Technologies, an AI-first product engineering firm, is seeking a highly experienced and ownership-driven Senior Full Stack Developer for their India-based operations. This role demands 8+ years of proven experience in designing, building, and scaling modern web applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong backend development skills with Node.js, extensive frontend experience with React, and practical knowledge of Python and AI-driven solutions, including tools like Claude. This position is ideal for a meticulous problem-solver who prioritizes deep thinking before coding, takes full end-to-end ownership, and thrives in a dynamic, product-centric environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full Stack Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using Node.js for the backend and React for the frontend. Produce clean, efficient, and reusable code with a strong emphasis on performance and scalability.
• Backend & API Engineering: Architect and develop robust RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs. Manage complex backend logic, system integrations, and workflows.
• AI & Emerging Technologies: Integrate and work with AI/LLM-based solutions (e.g., Claude or similar platforms). Identify opportunities to integrate AI-driven features such as automation, chat interfaces, and smart workflows into products. Collaborate on implementing AI-powered use cases.
• Python Development: Utilize Python for scripting, backend services, and AI-related integrations as needed.
• Database Management: Design and manage databases using PostgreSQL and MongoDB. Optimize queries, ensure data integrity, and handle large-scale data efficiently.
• System Design & Architecture: Contribute to high-level architectural decisions and system design, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering best practices.
• Ownership & Execution: Take complete ownership of features and modules from design through deployment. Proactively identify and solve problems.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, and DevOps. Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in full-stack development.
• Strong expertise in Node.js (backend development) and React.js (frontend development).
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Exposure to AI/LLM tools (e.g., Claude or similar platforms).
• Strong understanding of API design, system architecture, and scalable systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a “think before you code” mindset.
• Strong ownership mindset and accountability.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Good to Have:

• Experience with Go (Golang).
• Experience with AI integrations in production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
