Senior Software Engineer II

Role Overview:

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. As a Senior Software Engineer II (IC4), you will join a dynamic engineering team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. You will act as the technical anchor for the Agents platform, allowing customers to build, migrate, deploy, and use their agents efficiently on our multi-tenant control plane.

What You'll Do

• Technical Leadership: Drive end-to-end design, development, and delivery of critical control plane and data plane components for a platform hosting millions of AI agent requests.
• Scaled Platform Design (Go): Build high-throughput services managing global state, session lifecycles, agent memory, and complex synchronization. Integrate with popular LLMs (Claude Code, Codex) and frameworks like Langchain/Langraph/Crew.ai for multi-day agent sessions.
• Security & Performance: Implement robust multi-tenant services, API gateways, and auth layers to isolate workloads, rate-limit abuse, and track usage with sub-20ms overhead.
• Developer Experience (DX): Own the interface surfacing real-time telemetry, structured logging pipelines, and token streaming back to developer CLI/UI clients via Kafka/SSE.
• Mentorship & Collaboration: Coach junior engineers and align technical roadmaps with Product Managers and customer-facing teams.

What You'll Bring

• Distributed Systems Mastery (8+ years): Extensive experience in microservices, messaging systems, databases, and IaC using Go.
• AI/ML Integration: Hands-on expertise operating Agentic workloads, managing multi-day session lifecycles with pause/resume transitions, and handling Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) approvals.
• API & Proxy Expertise: Building high-throughput REST/gRPC APIs and custom reverse proxies for concurrent connection scaling.
• Orchestration & State Management: Practical experience with Kubernetes/Nomad, service meshes, and distributed key-value stores (Redis/Consul/Etcd).
• Data Architecture: Modeling state in PostgreSQL/MySQL and designing telemetry pipelines using Snowflake or ClickHouse.
