  • Configure connectivity using OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, REST APIs, or other common industrial protocols.
  • Build automation demos, prototypes, and pilot systems involving instruments, robotics, sensors, and digital tools.
  • Develop reusable scripts, templates, and configuration packages for consistent automation integration across product lines.
  • Collaborate with internal automation teams (e.g., Spinnaker, AMRs, FastTrak) to assemble and validate end-to-end automated workflows.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and document repeatable processes.
  • Support sales, field teams, and applications engineers with demo systems and technical enablement materials.
  • Provide input on instrument automation enhancements, contributing to future designs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or a related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in automation engineering, robotics integration, industrial controls, or lab automation.
  • Hands-on experience with instruments, sensors, PLCs, or robotic systems.
  • Practical experience with OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, REST APIs, or similar connectivity standards.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/DCS platforms (DeltaV, Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition) or workflow tools (LIMS, Momentum) is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Experience with Agile and/or Waterfall development methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of ISA-88/95 models and integration principles.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, GitHub, or similar tools.
  • Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and enthusiasm for practical engineering work.
  • Strong teamwork and project management skills, with the ability to lead integration efforts.

What You’ll Deliver:

  • Tested instrument automation integrations compliant with Thermo Fisher automation standards.
  • Demo systems and prototypes to visualize automation capabilities for internal teams and customers.
  • Reusable scripts, configurations, and documentation for Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, and REST integrations.
