About The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Toku, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and operating distributed systems that power our cloud communications platform. This is a backend-first technical position where engineering depth, ownership, and systems thinking are valued over strict job titles.

Your Responsibilities

• Design and evolve robust Backend Services & APIs using Go to support Toku's mission-critical communication infrastructure.
• Built scalable Distributed Systems, making architectural decisions around service boundaries, scalability, latency, fault tolerance, and operational simplicity.
• Develop event-driven platforms utilizing technologies such as Kafka, AWS SQS, RabbitMQ for high-volume asynchronous workflows.
• Create seamless Backend Integrations connecting the platform with external providers and internal services.
• Pioneer cloud-native engineering principles on AWS to develop modern backend services.
• Lead Architecture & Technical Leadership, challenging existing designs and evolving systems toward maintainable, scalable solutions.

What You'll Own

You will take full ownership of production systems, including monitoring with tools like Grafana or Datadog, troubleshooting incidents, performance optimization, and driving continuous operational improvement. Proactively identify technical debt and opportunities for architectural evolution.

We'd Love To Hear From If...

• Strong hands-on experience designing and operating production backend systems.
• Deep proficiency in Go (Golang) for building scalable services.
• Familiarity with Distributed Systems, microservices, resilience patterns, and system trade-offs.
• Practical experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar platforms.
• Solid knowledge of SQL databases and schema design; exposure to NoSQL is a plus.
