Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the Appian platform is fast, scalable, and robust. You will tackle complex problems of scale and flexibility, building a product capable of serving diverse customer needs. Your responsibilities will span across the high-performance data layer, cross-platform user interface, and design tools.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to and resolve emergent problems by writing software and building automation to prevent recurrence.
• Apply knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns in a full-stack Java & web technology environment, including Gradle, JDBC, Hibernate, Spring, Kafka, Quartz, Typescript, Redux, and React.
• Utilize both object-oriented and functional programming approaches to implement features.
• Promote best practices and accelerate development through your software development experience.
• Design software and systems with reliability, availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency in mind.
• Contribute significantly to team feature breakdowns, sizing, and the design of new feature implementations.
• Take high personal responsibility for team performance, including capabilities, quality, stability, and velocity.
• Continuously identify and champion opportunities for code refactoring and performance optimizations.
• Effectively communicate technical designs verbally and in writing to small to medium-sized technical audiences.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience building and delivering enterprise-grade software applications.
• Proven ability to solve complex system problems.
• Experience with CI/CD in cloud environments (e.g., AWS) and continuous integration systems (e.g., Jenkins).
• Experience solving problems within large, high-performance, real-time, distributed data systems.
• BE/B.Tech/BS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• MS in Computer Science is preferred.
• Demonstrable understanding of systems, algorithms, and OO design or web API design.
• Strong contributor to feature breakdowns, sizing, and design of new feature implementations.
• Proficiency in Agile methodologies and a commitment to quality.

This role is based at our Chennai Office and requires full-time in-office presence to foster our culture of in-person collaboration and shared ideas.
