Responsibilities:

• Develop new products and enhance Toast's existing product offerings to address global market demands.
• Manage projects from conception through development and successful rollout.
• Design, develop, and maintain highly robust, scalable, and secure backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate effectively with product managers, frontend engineers, and data teams to deliver impactful solutions.
• Lead initiatives to improve system performance and reliability, ensuring high availability and low latency.
• Contribute to architectural decision-making and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
• Implement and champion software development best practices, including comprehensive testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Tackle complex technical challenges such as integrating with third-party services, managing data synchronization, and working with large-scale distributed systems.
• Stay abreast of emerging backend technologies and advocate for their strategic adoption.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in backend development, with a strong emphasis on scalable, distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Java or Kotlin.
• A deep understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and database design (both SQL and NoSQL).
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a genuine enthusiasm for addressing complex technical challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a team-oriented mindset.
• Prior experience within the restaurant or fintech sectors, including payment processing or POS integrations, is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or Prometheus.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in technical communities are a plus.
• Proven experience in mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
