About the Role
Coinbase is a mission-driven company focused on increasing economic freedom. As a Senior Software Engineer, Certificate Management, you will join our Security Platform Engineering group to serve as the primary execution anchor for critical regulatory and cryptographic initiatives.
What You'll Do:
- Lead architecture and execution of critical cryptographic infrastructure supporting Coinbase's Public and Internal Certificate Management systems.
- Define technical strategies with multi-quarter horizons, resolving ambiguity in novel crypto-solutions.
- Implement secure, resilient cryptographic protocols in a high-stakes, zero-trust environment.
- Serve as a technical anchor for engineering quality practices, driving rigorous code reviews and eliminating single points of failure within our senior team.
- Build alignment across Security, Product, and Policy functions to drive flawless execution on ambitious initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years in software engineering with demonstrated success building highly available, distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), including operating Certificate Authorities and automating X.509 lifecycles (issuance, renewal, revocation) while protecting private keys via HSMs or cloud KMS.
- Extensive experience with systems languages such as Golang, Java, C++, or Rust; comfortable in a Golang-heavy environment.
- Proven track record operating Tier-0 infrastructure where resilience and low latency are prerequisites.
- Experience leading technical strategy for large-scale projects under complex regulatory requirements (e.g., financial compliance).

Compensation:$186,065—$218,900 USD (Annual Base Salary) plus equity and bonus eligibility. Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and more available.
