Senior Software Engineer

Overview

Microsoft, a leader in cloud-enabled innovation, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Azure Data engineering team in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This role is pivotal in transforming data analytics with products like Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, and Power BI, aiming to build the data platform for the age of AI. Specifically, the Power BI Quality Engineering team is developing an AI-driven automation platform to enhance release quality for Power BI Service and Desktop. As an L63 AI Developer, you will spearhead the design and integration of Generative AI (GenAI) solutions to boost automation, reliability, and engineering productivity. Responsibilities

• Architect and lead the implementation of GenAI capabilities for automated test generation, anomaly detection, workflow agents, and ML-assisted quality insights.
• Develop and integrate AI/ML infrastructure for test generation, evaluation harnesses, telemetry-based observability, and model governance, optimizing for accuracy, latency, memory, and cost.
• Drive the overall automation architecture in collaboration with automation leads, ensuring seamless integration of AI components across Desktop, Service, and Semantic Model test frameworks.
• Partner with engineering, product management, and vendor teams to embed AI into release pipelines, thereby enhancing reliability, reducing flakiness, and improving regression detection.
• Mentor engineers on AI concepts, prompt engineering, agent design, and responsible AI practices.
• Establish robust metrics and evaluation systems for AI-powered quality tooling, focusing on accuracy, stability, cost, and observability.
• Influence cross-team strategies concerning secure engineering practices, CI/CD integration, and pipeline intelligence.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of strong software engineering experience in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, or Java.
• Demonstrated practical experience in building AI/ML-powered systems utilizing Azure AI / OpenAI models.
• Expertise in automation frameworks, CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions), telemetry, and observability.
• Proven experience building production-grade AI systems, beyond prototype development.
• Capability to design scalable architectures and lead complex technical initiatives.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working effectively across global teams.

Security Screening: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter, is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with LLM evaluation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agent-based automation.
• Working knowledge of Power BI, analytics systems, or distributed services.
• Experience in building test frameworks, performance harnesses, or developer tools.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
