Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

AI is transforming enterprise operations, yet most organizations lack robust governance for AI usage. As a Senior Software Engineer on our AI Governance team at Rippling in Bengaluru, you will define and build foundational platform technology to manage AI identity, access control, model routing (MCP security), data protection, spend management, and auditability.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture Leadership: Lead technical architecture for core systems including MCP access control, model gateway policies, runtime authorization, audit pipelines, and usage attribution.
• Distributed Systems Design: Build scalable services that enforce policy at the moment of use without latency or fragility.
• Identity & Org Graph Integration: Connect AI usage to Rippling's org graph, roles, permissions, apps, devices, and workforce data for identity-aware controls.
• Solving Ambiguity: Tackle high-ambiguity problems in shadow AI detection, agent permissions, tool access, spend attribution, and data protection with a bias toward shipping fast feedback loops.
• Cross-functional Leadership: Partner with Product, Security, Legal, IT, and Engineering to turn new enterprise problem spaces into durable capabilities.
• Mentorship & Standards: Set technical direction for the team, define reliability expectations, and raise the engineering bar for secure, observable systems.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of org-wide impact.
• Deep expertise in backend development and distributed systems design.
• An AI-native mindset: hands-on experience using AI tools, coupled with the judgment to prioritize correctness, security, and architecture when needed.
• Strong security and systems judgment regarding authorization, identity, data movement, audit logs, or policy enforcement.
• Product sense for enterprise software, prioritizing customer-visible impact and operational simplicity.
• Excellent communication skills to navigate trade-offs between security, usability, and speed with diverse stakeholders.
