Senior Software Engineer

SmartBear is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the dynamic Pactflow team in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing the core Pactflow platform, collaborating with software engineers, UX designers, and product managers. You will contribute to building software that supports 16 million engineers, utilizing technologies like Ruby, Node, Microservices, TDD, and AI.

The Pactflow platform simplifies and ensures worry-free microservice testing and deployment at scale for thousands of developers and testers globally. We champion learning, growth, effective technology use, customer success, and contributions to the Open Source community. Our vision is a world free from deployment concerns, and we are building the premier contract testing solutions for developers.

As a Senior Engineer, you will be a key contributor to one of the world's leading API testing solutions. You will implement new functionality in close collaboration with stakeholders, build well-designed, clean applications with solid technical foundations, and participate in design and code reviews. Responsibilities also include creating and maintaining technical documentation, technically leading and mentoring junior engineers, and employing Test-Driven Development (TDD) or Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for high-quality code. You will also leverage AI tools and agents to accelerate development, enhance code quality, and automate engineering workflows, while critically evaluating AI capabilities and validating AI-generated code.

We are looking for individuals who value simple code, clear explanations, and take pride in writing well-tested, readable code with a methodical approach to complex technical challenges. Collaboration, communication, and a desire to contribute to the open-source community are highly valued.

Required qualifications:

• 5-7 years of experience with Ruby and Node in an Agile and TDD environment.
• Understanding of continuous delivery processes and tooling.
• Understanding of Highly Available systems and web-scale architectures.
• Experience with multiple database technologies such as PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Experience with AWS technologies and infrastructure as code (e.g., CloudFormation, RDS, ECS, Cognito).
• Comfort with event-driven and microservice architectures.
• Strong experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) in daily engineering workflows.
• Ability to evaluate when work can be delegated to AI agents versus AI-assisted execution.
• Understanding of limitations, risks, and validation strategies for AI-generated code.
