Full Job Description
NielsenIQ is expanding its AI capabilities within the Innovation Team and seeks a Senior Research Scientist for its Core Models team in Chennai or Pune, India. This multidisciplinary team focuses on various AI areas including recommender systems, extreme classifiers, and Large Language Models (LLMs). The role requires staying abreast of the latest AI research, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision, and applying state-of-the-art algorithms to complex, large-scale real-world challenges. Responsibilities include developing and customizing LLMs for consumer insights, integrating business knowledge (FMCG and Tech&Durables), and building downstream applications. Opportunities exist for producing scientific content like patents and publications. Key tasks involve data analysis, technique research, and the development, testing, support, and delivery of proofs of concept.
Job Responsibilities:
- Investigate, develop, and apply machine learning innovations with minimal technical supervision.
- Perform feasibility studies and analyze data to identify optimal solutions.
- Drive innovation and lead efforts in developing custom Large Language Models.
- Address diverse data challenges, ensuring ML solutions and source code are simple, scalable, reproducible, and maintainable.
- Effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to team building, motivation, and fostering effective team relationships.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 4-5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong foundation in Computer Science, Linear Algebra, and Probability.
- Solid expertise in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, with a focus on Transformers.
- Proven experience in Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models.
- Ability to comprehend scientific papers and translate innovative ideas into functional code.
- Demonstrated track record of innovation through novel algorithm creation, publications in AI conferences/journals, and practical application of AI advancements.
- Proficiency in data analysis and hands-on experience with datasets, ML models, and evaluations.
- Skilled in Python, PyTorch, Huggingface, git, pandas/polars, and sklearn.
- Possess a proactive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and persistence in problem-solving.
- Proficient communication skills in English (minimum B2 level).
- Eagerness to collaborate within a diverse, international team and contribute to an inclusive global culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in a scientific field (NLP preferred) and specialized coursework in relevant areas.
- Experience with large-scale real-world datasets and scalable ML solutions.
- Prior experience in e-commerce, retail, FMCG, or Consumer Insight domains.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (SCRUM or Scaled Agile).
