Position Summary:

Level: Senior Manager/Manager

The Product Engineering Manager is a pivotal leadership role within a product team, responsible for building and delivering enterprise software products used by multiple clients. This hands-on technical manager will oversee significant strategic and technical aspects of products, including leadership communication, managing multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality, and adhering to Deloitte's standards and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Delivery

• Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization, including hiring, coaching, and performance management of engineers and engineering managers.
• Own end-to-end systems software delivery, from design to release, ensuring predictable execution and high quality.
• Define technical vision and enforce best practices in architecture, code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Architecture, DevOps/SRE, QA, Performance, and Customer Success teams to align priorities, define requirements, and resolve impediments.
• Drive engineering productivity by adopting and enabling Generative AI (GenAI) solutions.
• Assess and optimize engineering maturity, estimation approaches, and deployment/operating models to enhance delivery outcomes.

Engineering Excellence

• Provide technical direction and oversight for key initiatives, including architectural reviews and critical technical decisions.
• Enhance iteration velocity through improved tooling, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and standardization.
• Mitigate and prevent technical debt, ensuring the platform remains maintainable and current with modern patterns and evolving technology stacks.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, including GenAI, and integrate relevant advancements into strategy and execution.

Operating Model & Continuous Improvement

• Implement and continuously refine engineering processes and operating rhythms, such as planning, code reviews, release management, and incident learnings.
• Drive measurable improvements in efficiency, reliability, quality, and collaboration.

Deloitte's Innovations and Technology teams are dedicated to delivering innovative cloud-based solutions across diverse domains and industries such as supply chain management, banking, insurance, CPG, and retail. Operating in a fast-paced, innovative environment, these teams follow agile development approaches and leverage the latest technologies in cloud, commercial, and open-source platforms. They build and market solutions that they also host and operate for clients.

Required Qualifications

• 16+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 6 years in engineering leadership or management for product engineering teams exceeding 20 engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to lead architectural discussions, make sound technical decisions, and balance short-term delivery needs with long-term system maintainability.
• Extensive experience with distributed systems, microservices, and scalable backend services/APIs.
• Experience leading Generative AI solutions, utilizing both open-source LLMs (e.g., Llama, BERT, Mistral) and commercial models (e.g., OpenAI GPT, Claude, Cohere).
• Working knowledge of agentic AI and frameworks like LangChain/LangGraph.
• Cloud proficiency: AWS is required; Azure is a plus.
• Experience with containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes (Helm/Argo CD preferred).
• Proficiency in one or more of the following stacks, depending on product requirements:
• Backend: Java, Node.js, Python
• Frontend: React
• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, and version control.
• Proven track record in mentoring engineers, driving execution, and guiding teams through complex technical challenges.

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
