Senior Manager

Rubrik's Enterprise AI team serves as its internal AI enablement engine, identifying impactful AI applications, developing platforms and patterns for easy adoption, and empowering engineering teams to enhance productivity. Operating at the intersection of applied AI, distributed systems, and enterprise operations, the team focuses on making Rubrik more efficient through AI-powered workflows.

The India engineering hub is a vital component of this team, driving platform development, connector builds, tools administration, and global support operations. This role is responsible for leading and expanding Rubrik's engineering presence in India, ensuring close alignment with US-based leadership and cultivating a high-performing local team.

As the Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering — India, you will lead Rubrik's India-based AI engineering team, overseeing platform development, MCP connector builds, tools rollout and administration, and global L1/L2 support operations. This is a leadership position requiring deep technical expertise in AI/ML systems and proven people management capabilities. You will be instrumental in hiring and developing a world-class team, executing critical platform workstreams, and acting as the primary India-side engineering lead for the Enterprise AI organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the India AI Engineering Team: Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and support specialists, establishing India as a center of excellence for AI platform engineering.
• Oversee Platform Engineering Workstreams: Drive the development of AI platform components, including control plane features, skills frameworks, web applications, versioning, and diagnostics tooling, in close collaboration with the US platform team.
• Manage Connector and Integration Development: Direct the construction of MCP connectors and integration layers to facilitate AI agent interaction with enterprise systems across Rubrik.
• Spearhead Tools Rollout and Administration: Own the global deployment and ongoing administration of AI tools such as Glean, Claude Code, and Cowork, ensuring seamless implementation, user onboarding, and operational readiness.
• Direct Global L1/L2 Support Operations: Establish and manage support processes to deliver responsive, high-quality support for AI tools and platforms globally.
• Ensure Cross-Site Coordination: Collaborate closely with US-based leadership to maintain tight alignment on priorities, architectural decisions, and delivery schedules across different time zones.
• Support Existing AI Products: Maintain and enhance current tools and products including Coby, Rubreak, and SmartInsights.
• Promote Engineering Excellence: Implement development standards, code review practices, CI/CD processes, and operational runbooks to ensure the India team delivers production-grade work.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering management role leading teams of 5 or more engineers.
• Strong technical foundation in backend/platform engineering, encompassing distributed systems, API development, and cloud-native architectures (GCP and/or AWS).
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML systems in production environments, including LLM integrations, agent frameworks, or ML platform development.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Go, with the ability to contribute technically and provide credible code and architecture reviews.
• Demonstrated success in hiring, developing, and retaining top engineering talent in the Indian market.
• Experience managing teams that collaborate across different sites with US-based counterparts, characterized by strong asynchronous communication, documentation practices, and effective management of overlapping work hours.
• Experience with support operations, including building L1/L2 support processes, SLAs, escalation paths, and runbooks for internal tooling.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with senior leadership, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• A self-starter with a high degree of ownership, comfortable operating autonomously in a dynamic and often ambiguous environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or managing MCP servers, AI agent ecosystems, or developer platform teams.
• Familiarity with modern AI development tooling such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI-powered coding agents.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipeline management.
• A track record of scaling an engineering team from a small unit to a larger, multi-functional organization.
• Experience with enterprise tool administration, including managing licenses, access controls, usage analytics, and vendor relationships for developer tools.
• Background in cybersecurity or data management enterprise software.
