Senior Manager

Gen Digital Inc. is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Engineering in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to lead a team of data engineers and own team deliverables. This technical leadership role involves architecting systems within the team's domain and driving complex, cross-team projects crucial to the cybersecurity platform's strategic objectives. The Senior Manager will balance individual contributor responsibilities, including hands-on coding and code reviews, with team management. Key duties include managing performance, hiring, and mentorship, while actively participating in and improving the hiring process and technical specification review processes. A core responsibility is crafting solutions that advance Gen's AI-first analytics and development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• People management of a Data Engineering team, including performance, compensation, hiring, and mentorship.
• Expertise in operating and optimizing modern data warehousing solutions, with a preference for Snowflake, focusing on performance and cost efficiency.
• Proficiency in Apache Kafka, real-time data processing, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Apache Iceberg, data lakehouse architectures, and modern table formats.
• Design and architect enterprise-scale data solutions aligned with Gen's data strategy.
• Develop at least one exemplary technical specification annually to advance Gen's data architecture.
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in the modern data stack and advanced analytics.
• Collaborate with executives and senior leadership to align data architecture with business strategy and manage senior external stakeholders.
• Drive multi-quarter technical initiatives requiring cross-team coordination.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5-10 years of hands-on data engineering experience in large-scale, high-volume environments, with 1-2 years of management experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL optimization for multi-petabyte datasets and advanced Python programming.
• Extensive experience with Snowflake architecture, optimization, and enterprise-scale cost management.
• Demonstrated expertise in building Kimball dimensional data warehouses and star schema architectures.
• Advanced experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and transformation tools like DBT or SQLMesh.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitFlow, and data governance frameworks (GDPR/PCI-DSS compliant).
• Familiarity with AWS is highly advantageous.
• Proven ability in planning, prioritizing, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day tasks.
• Experience collaborating with PMO, other data specialists (analysts, scientists, ML), and working across time zones.
