About the Role
The Streaming Compute team owns the platform powering large-scale data processing at Shopify using Apache Flink. We provide infrastructure and tooling enabling teams to build, deploy, and operate streaming/batch pipelines reliably and efficiently. Our platform supports business-critical use cases including recommendations, catalog management, and analytics.
What You'll Do
- Champion projects across the full platform stack: enhancing developer tools, scaling infrastructure, building control planes, and contributing to the Flink open-source ecosystem.
- Ship high-quality code that raises the team's technical standards.
- Collaborate extensively with users to ensure success and contribute to roadmap planning.
- Maintain 24/7 on-call rotation for platform resiliency.
What You'll Bring
We don't expect you to have done all of this, but we value:
- Reflexively using AI to accelerate daily work.
- Prior experience with Apache Flink or a track record contributing to its open-source projects (major plus).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated experience in Java, Rust, Go, Ruby, and/or other relevant languages.
- Experience with data-intensive systems like Kafka, Iceberg, BigQuery as a user or maintainer.
