Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer (UI) to lead the design and implementation of our observability and API security dashboards. This role focuses on building high-performance, real-time data visualization components, including time-series charts, trace waterfalls, flame graphs, service dependency maps, heatmaps, and virtualized log/event tables. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of the frontend architecture, performance, and iteration for our observability and API security consoles.
- Designing and optimizing dense data visualizations that maintain smooth performance at scale, ensuring no flickering or reflows during live telemetry streaming.
- Establishing and maintaining a cohesive design system to unify three product surfaces into one seamless experience.
- Ensuring the product functions in air-gapped on-premise deployments with predictable bundle behavior, no CDN dependencies, or external font/analytics calls.
- Setting and enforcing strict performance benchmarks (interaction latency, memory usage, initial load) through rigorous code reviews, testing, and mentorship.
- Collaborating with backend teams to shape APIs that meet frontend needs, ensuring data volume and complexity are handled efficiently.
- Mentoring junior engineers and fostering best practices in frontend development.
Ideal candidates will have:
- 5–6 years of experience building production-grade web applications, especially in data-heavy or dashboard-style products.
- Advanced proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, including runtime behavior, React performance optimization (memoization, virtualization), and real-time data handling (WebSockets, SSE, polling).
- Strong expertise in data visualization libraries (D3, ECharts, uPlot, visx, Recharts, Canvas/WebGL) and CSS for dense layouts and responsive design.
- Experience with modern build tools (Vite, Webpack), testing frameworks (Vitest/Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and semantic HTML.
- Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Prometheus, Jaeger, Honeycomb) and OpenTelemetry concepts (traces, spans, metrics, logs).
- Bonus points for Next.js, SSR/SSG trade-offs, Node.js backend experience, and open-source contributions.
