The Senior Floating Systems Engineer role involves providing field expertise for operation support, encompassing maintenance, inspection, anomaly management, and brownfield projects. This engineer will proactively collaborate with other fields and contractors to systematically address challenges and apply sound engineering judgment for integrated, pragmatic solutions in risk management, operational efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization. The position is based in Pune, India, supporting operational assets in Mauritania & Senegal. Candidates require a strong technical background and proven integrity management experience to provide fit-for-purpose recommendations for operational support. Excellent stakeholder leadership and communication skills are essential to ensure engineering risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business for safe and reliable operations.
What you will deliver:
Discipline related:
- Act as an integrated member (remotely) of the regional Integrity Management (IM) squad team to maintain regional floating assets in suitable condition, aligning with the company’s safety and business objectives.
- Support regional C&S engineers in executing regional floating systems and structural integrity management plans, adhering to company guidance and industry codes. This includes responsibility for asset floating systems and structural inspection, monitoring, and maintenance strategies to address current facility conditions. The role involves managing significant deterioration in topside structures, hull, and mooring, or deviations from floating systems performance standards through the anomaly management process, quantifying risks, and recommending mitigation actions.
- Serve as the lead field engineer for defining the engineering scope of work for floating systems and structures in brownfield projects and providing technical assurance for third-party engineering deliverables. Maintain relationships with third-party providers and contractors, ensuring designs and operations comply with industry codes, technical practices, and performance standards. Assess the impact of significant load changes or alterations in operating conditions (e.g., metocean) on asset integrity.
- Provide support for regional severe weather evacuation preparations and post-storm inspections (hurricane or winter storm). Supervise platform performance using Integrity Marine Monitoring Systems (IMMS) data to ensure floaters operate within safe limits.
- Approve weight changes on platforms, adhering to company policy to maintain floater stability.
- Drive efforts to ensure floating systems risks (condition, operation, or metocean) are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business, ensuring safe and reliable operating results, and effectively communicating these risks to business and technical stakeholders.
- Document operational experience and coordinate with central engineers to standardize regional practices.
- Represent the company in external engagements, including participation in or leadership of Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) and other industry initiatives.
- Actively contribute to the floating system’s Community of Practice (CoP), sharing best practices and findings.
People and business related:
- Provide visible safety leadership in alignment with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules, and process safety fundamentals, modeling desired safety behaviors.
- Record relevant learnings in shared learning systems, incorporate them into local activities, specifications, practices, and procedures, and raise high-priority lessons.
- Support performance management through the implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPIs to drive continuous improvement.
- Support the professional development of junior engineers.
What you will need to be successful:
Educational qualifications:
- BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned field.
Certifications:
- Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or near chartered/professional status in a closely aligned field, or evidence of progression towards full chartered/professional status.
Preferred education/certifications:
- Postgraduate qualification in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned field.
Minimum years of proven experience:
- 10+ years

Must have experience/skills (To be hired with):
- Capability to deliver projects or technical assurance autonomously.
- Support junior field engineers in achieving certified professional status through field industry associations.
- Act as a role model for junior field engineers, dedicating time to mentor and develop their technical and communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of discipline-related industry standards (e.g., ISO 19900/19904 series) and class codes (ABS, DNV, or BV).
- Strong technical skills in global motion, stability, topside, and hull structural design and analysis.
- Proven industry experience in offshore floating structures design, construction, installation, or integrity management.
- Operating experience in integrity management support for offshore floating platforms, with a proven record in leading inspection, inspection data management, analysis, fitness-for-service, modification, and repair of structures during the operating phase.
- Experience and deep technical understanding of risk and integrity management in the operation of O&G facilities.
- Experience in creating value through the development and execution of cost-effective improvement programs.
- Ability and confidence to engage with and influence senior leadership on technical matters.
- People leadership, teamwork, and the ability to network and influence across organizational boundaries.
- Familiarity with the operating conditions of typical O&G units.
- Fluent in English, both written and oral.
Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):
- Experience in management of change, risk assessment, performance management, maintenance, and repair strategies.
- Experience in applying risk-based methodology for platform inspection and anomaly management.
- Knowledge of Agile principles and tools.
