Senior Firebase / Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive backend engineer to enhance and scale a real-time, event-driven AI system. This is a pivotal role focused on owning the reliability, performance, and architectural advancement of a project that integrates cutting-edge technologies like Gemini AI and ElevenLabs.

Key Responsibilities

• Mission-Critical Backend Development: Develop and scale Firebase Cloud Functions (Node.js 20) to power AI-driven event processing pipelines.
• High-Throughput Webhook Systems: Design and implement robust systems capable of handling real-time voice and data streams from ElevenLabs and other agentic platforms.
• Datastore Optimization: Tune Firestore in Datastore Mode for optimal performance and cost-efficiency, demonstrating a deep understanding of Entities/Kinds and scaling strategies.
• GCP Infrastructure Management: Troubleshoot and resolve complex Google Cloud Platform (GCP) deployment issues, including Identity & Access Management (IAM) policy conflicts, Organization Policy restrictions, and Cloud Build errors.
• Architectural Modernization: Lead the migration from legacy Firebase 1st Gen to modern 2nd Gen architecture and Cloud Run-based services.

What We're Looking For

• Firebase Expertise: Proficient with the Firebase CLI, Cloud Functions, and Admin SDK, with a knack for efficient function packaging.
• GCP Security Acumen: Strong grasp of GCP Identity & Access Management, with the ability to diagnose service account permission issues and secret access problems.
• Datastore Proficiency: Experienced with the @google-cloud/datastore library, understanding its consistency models and indexing requirements.
• Production-Ready Node.js: Expert in asynchronous programming patterns and debugging dependency issues in containerized build environments (e.g., ENOTDIR, layer conflicts).
• Resilience Engineering: Ability to not only fix code but also improve deployment pipelines for sustained stability.

Bonus Qualifications (High Impact)

• AI and Agentic Systems: Practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as Gemini and OpenAI, and familiarity with agentic loop concepts.
• Real-time Voice Integration: Experience with webhook-driven voice platforms and managing low-latency communication requirements.
• Database Strategy: Clear understanding of when to utilize Datastore Mode versus when to implement Firestore Native instances.

First 4 Weeks Success Metrics

• Deployment Pipeline Stabilization: Ensure reliable firebase deploy operations, resolving IAM and Org Policy blockers.
• Webhook Reliability: Achieve stable and observable webhook flows, particularly for ElevenLabs, ready for increased load.
• Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve existing Datastore performance bottlenecks.
• Gen2 Upgrade Roadmap: Define a clear, phased execution plan for infrastructure upgrades to Gen2.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
