Senior Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Rust Engineer for our Passkeys team at Bitwarden. In this role, you will build the technology taking the world beyond passwords by implementing WebAuthn and FIDO2 standards across browser, desktop, and mobile platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Bitwarden's implementation of WebAuthn and FIDO2 standards in Rust within an end-to-end encrypted vault.
• Integrate passkey implementations with platform credential provider surfaces across all clients (browser, desktop, mobile).
• Participate in the design and evolution of the shared Rust SDK used by every Bitwarden client, including language bindings and FFI development.
• Implement emerging standards for credential portability and secure import/export between providers.
• Build interoperability testing to ensure correctness against various relying parties, browsers, and platforms encountered in real-world usage.
• Become an expert on Bitwarden APIs and cryptographic/architectural constraints of zero-knowledge products.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and help spread technical expertise within the team.
• Independently plan, estimate, and deliver new feature work and bug fixes with high attention to detail.

Requirements & Qualifications

To succeed as a Senior Rust Engineer on our Passkeys team, you should bring:

• Expertise in developing production-level Rust components including library design, language bindings, and FFI implementation.
• Experience implementing standards or protocols from their specifications with rigorous attention to edge cases and real-world testing rather than assumed conformance.
• A working knowledge of applied cryptography: reasoning about public key cryptography, signatures, and key handling.
• A disciplined approach to correctness for software that handles sensitive data; writing readable, testable code while carefully considering failure modes.
• Experience using AI tooling in development workflows (Anthropic Claude preferred).
• Familiarity with Electron, TypeScript, and web technologies is a plus.
• Collaborative mindset, adaptability, openness, authenticity, excellent communication skills, and enthusiasm for open source security.
