Full Job Description
About the Role:
Eaton is seeking a motivated Senior Engineer to lead engineering projects and solutions for their Network Protector products. This role involves spearheading product development from specifications and design through implementation and testing. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in medium voltage products, 3D modeling (Inventor), new product development (NPD), and Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE), with a preference for Six Sigma certification.
You will drive engineering excellence and leverage an analysis-first approach. This includes leading PreLaunch and ProLaunch projects, designing and developing new products for the NWP division, and building a robust VAVE portfolio for cost-effective and reliable solutions.
Success requires strong collaboration skills, motivation to achieve project objectives, and the ability to learn new techniques and development processes. A system-level viewpoint and problem-solving skills are essential. You will also guide and mentor the Pune Network Solutions team in concept development, detailed design, and industrialization activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of Network Protectors, Circuit breakers, Capacitors, and related subsystems with new features based on marketing requirements.
- Understand the product portfolio and business landscape, proposing improvements through product tear-downs.
- Take technical ownership of projects, ensuring product compliance with global design standards such as IEEE and IEC.
- Complete Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) for products under development.
- Perform system and component sizing, design, simulation, and testing to meet product requirements.
- Add value for end customers by modifying existing products through the Change Management process.
- Generate ideas, perform system/component sizing, modeling, and simulation to meet product design and compliance requirements.
- Select appropriate engineering techniques to solve problems and provide design recommendations.
- Modify existing products to meet customer, manufacturing, regulatory, industry standard, and market requirements.
- Develop test plans based on knowledge of IEC/IEEE codes.
- Utilize knowledge of metals and plastics to suggest alternative materials and assess their impact on cost, testing, and certification.
- Participate in witnessing tests (Temperature rise, Fault current, High voltage, Impact, Vibration, mechanical endurance) and estimate the impact of material/component changes.
- Create test object requirements, plan assembly, and finalize test parameters and instrumentation.
- Conduct tests following standard practices.
- Assess test results, perform root cause analysis for failures, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Perform design engineering analysis on current paths, mechanisms, and components using simulation or Excel calculations.
- Support the creation of new designs and advanced methodologies for the organization's Technical Roadmap.
- Review Supplier Document Requirements Lists based on product requirements, customer specifications, or industry standards.
- Review design proposals and documentation to define and control the product roadmap.
- Participate in customer and internal design reviews.
- Support root cause analysis for Network Protector production and quality issues.
- Identify and communicate risks during development and implement mitigation plans.
- Participate in multidisciplinary concurrent development and corrective action teams.
- Perform diverse engineering tasks involving product, material, manufacturing process, testing, and customer application challenges.
- Execute projects, including Production feasibility assessment and Part Production Approval Process (PPAP).
- Complete 2D drawings and 3D models in Creo and Inventor.
- Propose alternative manufacturing processes to reduce final part costs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7 to 9 years of experience in product design and cost reduction initiatives.
- Experience with New Product Development (NPD) and VAVE projects.
- Understanding of plant processes and different functional areas.
- Experience leading programs/projects through all stages of the product development lifecycle.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player with global and virtual teams.
- Hands-on experience in product development using DfX methodologies.
- Strong engineering technical expertise to solve problems and make design recommendations.
- Good analytical skills.
