Senior DevOps Engineer - Cloud and AI Platform

This position reports to the Digital Solution Engineering Manager.

Your Role and Responsibilities

This is a Senior DevOps Engineer role focused on our Cloud and AI platform. You will be reporting to the Vice President within ABB Ability™ Genix, an industrial analytics and artificial intelligence platform in the Process Automation business area, based in Bangalore. You will collaborate closely with the Product Delivery team, including Platform Services, at the Ability Innovation Center (AIC). The AIC is home to ABB's largest global pool of technology and engineering talent and is part of ABB Global Industries and Services Private Limited, a subsidiary of ABB, located in Bangalore, India's technology hub. Its integrated infrastructure fosters collaboration among research, development, engineering, and service teams, accelerating time-to-market without compromising quality.

The work model for this role is onsite/hybrid/remote.

Key Responsibilities:

Modern Automation of CI/CD Pipeline (Must-Have - Azure CI/CD)

• Design and architect robust CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment processes.
• Implement automation and orchestration to streamline environment provisioning and configuration.
• Integrate security scanning, vulnerability assessments, and compliance checks into the CI/CD workflow.
• Define and design deployment strategies to minimize downtime and risks during software updates.
• Create comprehensive documentation, provide training, and facilitate knowledge transfer on CI/CD best practices and procedures.

GitOps Implementation (Nice-to-Have)

• Define and establish GitOps practices and workflows for managing infrastructure and application deployments.
• Set up Git repositories for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Kubernetes manifests.
• Implement GitOps tooling (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux) for automated synchronization of Git repositories with environments.
• Ensure all changes to infrastructure and application configurations are managed via Git pull requests.

Service Management and Developer Portal (Must-Have)

• Integrate tooling such as Backstage.io as a developer portal and central hub for managing services and resources.
• Customize the developer portal to offer a catalog of services, components, and APIs.
• Implement access control and authentication mechanisms to secure resources.
• Integrate the Developer Portal with CI/CD pipelines for service registration and automated documentation generation.

Workflow Automation

• Develop automation scripts and workflows leveraging GitOps and Developer Portals to streamline infrastructure and deployment processes.
• Define automated processes for service creation and updates, ensuring consistency and reliability.

Monitoring and Reporting (Must-Have)

• Implement monitoring and reporting features within the developer portal to provide insights into service and deployment status.
• Enable tracking of deployment history and key performance metrics.

Education and Adoption (Good-to-Have)

• Educate teams on GitOps, Developer Portal, and CI/CD principles, promoting their adoption.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the organization to drive innovation and maintain the platform's competitive edge.

Your Background

Academic Background & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience (2-6 years) in a technical role, working effectively with software engineering teams.
• Expertise in designing and architecting CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment processes.
• Experience with Git repository management and various Git branching strategies.
• Proficiency in automation and orchestration tools such as Terraform (Must-have).
• Knowledge of security best practices, including security scanning and compliance checks (e.g., integrating SonarQube, MetaDefender, Trivy).
• Strong expertise in developing automation scripts and workflows to streamline infrastructure and deployment processes.
• Experience with deployment strategies like blue-green deployments and canary releases (Good-to-have).
• Exposure to working with deployment experts in defining and establishing GitOps practices and workflows.
• Excellent documentation skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Previous experience providing training and facilitating knowledge transfer on CI/CD principles and best practices (Good-to-have).
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the organization.
