Sabre Corporation is seeking a Senior Data Science Engineer to join their Operations Research team in Bengaluru / Bangalore, India. This role is pivotal in driving the transformation of the airline industry, particularly in retailing and distribution. You will leverage advanced data analytics, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques to optimize revenue performance and enhance customer experience within the airline sector.
The airline industry is undergoing significant changes with the introduction of Offer/Order Management and Continuous Dynamic Pricing. These advancements create extensive opportunities for personalized customer engagement through various touchpoints. By harnessing the vast volumes of consumer and competitive data available, coupled with sophisticated statistical and machine learning methodologies, substantial improvements in revenue and customer satisfaction can be achieved.
About the Role
As a Data Science Engineer, you will apply expert-level statistical analysis, data modeling, and predictive analytics to address strategic and operational challenges in the airline industry. Your responsibilities include translating complex business questions into data analysis frameworks, defining key performance indicators (KPIs), and presenting findings to diverse audiences, including clients, sales teams, and development teams. You will be responsible for sourcing data from multiple sources, writing high-quality data manipulation scripts (e.g., R, Python, Perl, bash), and developing and applying data mining and machine learning algorithms for advanced analysis and prediction. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with developers to support product development and assist decision-makers with empirical data to drive sales and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with airline subject matter experts to identify data-driven opportunities for insights and predictions on customer behavior and operational performance.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources, data gathering methods, and forecasting techniques.
- Develop custom data models and algorithms for analysis and conduct proof-of-concept studies.
- Enhance in-house algorithms using existing statistical and machine learning tools.
- Partner with software engineers to implement and test production-quality code for forecasting and data analytics models.
- Establish processes and tools for monitoring and analyzing data accuracy and model performance.
- Demonstrate software capabilities to customers, conduct value-proving benchmarks, and calibrate software to meet customer needs.
- Train customers on software usage and maintenance, and resolve customer issues or suggestions for improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to apply modeling and analytical skills to practical, real-world problems.
- Proficiency in a range of machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks) and an understanding of their practical applications and limitations.
- Solid knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (e.g., regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests) with hands-on experience.
- Strong programming skills, including SQL, Python, PySpark, or other data extraction and analysis tools. Experience with golang (preferred), Java, JavaScript, or C++ is a plus.
- Experience deploying machine learning and statistical models on cloud platforms, utilizing services such as Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Forecast.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the airline, hospitality, or retailing industries and their associated decision support systems.
- Experience in developing customer choice models, price elasticity estimation, and market potential estimation.
- Understanding of airline distribution, pricing, revenue management, NDC (New Distribution Capability), and Offer/Order Management concepts.
