Uber is seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer to join the Payments Data Engineering team in Hyderabad. This role is crucial for developing and optimizing data systems that ensure the scalability, accuracy, and compliance of our global payment infrastructure.
You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Risk, and Compliance teams to transform complex financial and transactional data into robust pipelines, insightful analytics, and auditable datasets.
The ideal candidate is a skilled individual contributor with deep technical knowledge and a practical approach to solving complex data challenges. You thrive in ambiguous environments, drive projects forward, and are passionate about improving payment systems through high-quality data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product managers to define technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Contribute to the architecture and implementation of distributed data systems and platforms.
- Identify and address inefficiencies in data processing to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor team members on data engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with a specialization in data engineering.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Expertise in SQL and experience with large-scale data processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Flink, MapReduce, and Presto.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing scalable ETL pipelines and data platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of data warehousing concepts and data modeling best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Hadoop ecosystem tools, including Hive, HDFS, Oozie, Airflow, Spark, and Presto.
- Familiarity with streaming technologies such as Kafka or Samza.
- Expertise in performance optimization, query tuning, and resource-efficient data processing.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a history of end-to-end system ownership from design to production.
