Full Job Description
Forbes Advisor is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in Chennai, India, to play a key role in designing and scaling the infrastructure for our analytics, performance marketing, and experimentation platforms. This position is perfect for individuals who excel at resolving complex data challenges, take ownership of systems from end-to-end, and enjoy close collaboration with stakeholders across product, marketing, and analytics teams. You will be instrumental in building robust, scalable data pipelines and models that drive informed decision-making and automation throughout the business.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines utilizing Spark, Kafka, Airflow, and Python.
- Orchestrating complex workflows across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as GCS, BigQuery, and Composer, as well as AWS-based systems.
- Modeling data effectively with dbt, prioritizing quality, reusability, and comprehensive documentation.
- Ingesting, cleaning, and normalizing data from diverse third-party sources including Google Ads, Meta, Taboola, Outbrain, and Google Analytics.
- Writing high-performance SQL queries and supporting analytics and reporting teams with self-service data access.
- Monitoring and enhancing data quality, lineage, and governance across all critical workflows.
- Collaborating effectively with engineers, analysts, and business partners located in the US, UK, and India.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years of data engineering experience, preferably within a global, distributed team environment.
- Strong proficiency in Python development.
- Expert-level SQL skills for data transformation, analysis, and debugging.
- In-depth knowledge of Airflow and best practices for workflow orchestration.
- Proficiency in dbt, including data modeling, testing, and release workflows.
- Hands-on experience with GCP services like BigQuery, GCS, and Composer; familiarity with AWS is advantageous.
- A solid understanding of data governance, observability, and privacy standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience with digital marketing and performance data sources such as Google Ads, Meta (Facebook), TikTok, Taboola, Outbrain, and Google Analytics (GA4). Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau or Looker, as well as exposure to attribution models, media mix modeling, or A/B testing infrastructure, would be beneficial. Collaboration experience with data scientists or machine learning workflows is also a plus.
