Senior Backend Engineer

Join SmartBear as a Senior Backend Engineer for the ReadyAPI product, a role focused on developing tangible, industry-leading products used daily by hundreds of thousands of software developers worldwide. You will gain exposure to cutting-edge development technologies within a hybrid model at our Bangalore office. The core tech stack includes Java, HTTP, REST API, Maven, and Git, with Docker and GitHub usage.

The ReadyAPI product enables teams to create, manage, and execute automated functional, security, and performance tests in a unified interface. Development teams globally, including those at NASA and FedEx, utilize ReadyAPI to test various API types such as REST, SOAP, Apache Kafka, and MQTT. The tool supports recording live API traffic and virtualizing web services to eliminate pipeline dependencies, with seamless integrations into tools like GIT, JIRA, Slack, and Jenkins.

In this role, you will be instrumental in developing product functionalities and adding capabilities for users. You'll collaborate with top engineers, product managers, and UX designers, contributing to the development and integration of application modules. You will tackle challenges in architecture, asynchronous APIs, desktop applications, and data modeling. Key responsibilities include participating in technical discussions and requirement analysis, driving high engineering standards through code reviews and grooming sessions, ensuring test coverage and code quality align with guidelines, and collaborating with geographically dispersed teams. You will also explore new tools to enhance task security and delivery.

We are looking for candidates with 5+ years of Java development experience. Experience with Desktop application development is a significant advantage. Familiarity with frontend frameworks like ReactJS or Angular is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. You should have experience working with HTTP, REST APIs, Maven, and Git. Experience in CI/CD pipelines, driving automation and quality, along with knowledge of design patterns and performance best practices, is expected. A big plus would be experience with GraphQL, SOAP, Apache Kafka, MQTT, JIRA, OAuth2, Jenkins, JavaFX, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, AWS, and Groovy. Familiarity with AI tools like co-pilot agents and Devin is also encouraged. Hands-on experience with frontend technologies like ReactJS/Angular is considered beneficial.
