Senior Backend Engineer

We are building a high-scale Super App platform for the Saudi market and looking for a strong backend engineer who can design and build modular, scalable, and production-grade backend systems handling millions of users.

The core responsibilities include:

• High-Level Design (HLD): System architecture, scalability decisions, and infra planning tailored for high-traffic regions like Saudi Arabia.
• Low-Level Design (LLD): Schema design, APIs, service structure, and clean modular code optimized for performance.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design a scalable microservices architecture for a super app ecosystem serving the Kingdom.
• Define HLD for new modules including auth, payments, notifications, user management, and analytics.
• Create LLD with robust DB schemas, API contracts, and caching strategies using Redis.
• Design event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka or PubSub message queues.
• Implement high availability and fault tolerance patterns to ensure 99.9% uptime for our users in Saudi Arabia.

Backend Development:

• Build production-grade services using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern async programming practices.
• Write clean, modular, testable, and maintainable code adhering to best security standards.
• Design secure REST/GraphQL APIs with proper authentication (JWT, OAuth) and RBAC implementation.
• Integrate third-party services for payments, KYC compliance, messaging, etc., ensuring seamless user experiences in the Saudi market.

Scalability and Performance:

• Design systems to scale from 1M+ users with a focus on low latency and high throughput.
• Implement advanced caching strategies using Redis for global performance.
• Optimize database queries, indexing, and connection pooling for PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB workloads.
• Ensure horizontal scalability across cloud providers like AWS/GCP/Azure to handle peak traffic in Saudi Arabia.

DevOps and Infrastructure Awareness:

• Work with Docker and Kubernetes to orchestrate containerized microservices efficiently.
• Contribute to robust CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable deployments.
• Leverage cloud infrastructure on AWS/GCP/Azure specific to the Middle East region where possible.
• Implement comprehensive logging, monitoring, and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stacks.

Required Experience:

• 6-9 years of professional backend development experience with a proven track record in high-scale systems.
• Deep expertise in Node.js event loops, async programming patterns (Promises/Async-Await).
• Strong TypeScript knowledge for type-safe application logic.
• Extensive experience building and maintaining microservices architectures.

Databases:

• Expertise with PostgreSQL or MySQL including advanced schema design, partitioning, and replication strategies.
• Proficiency in NoSQL databases like MongoDB or DynamoDB for flexible data models.
• Mastery of Redis caching patterns to accelerate application response times.
• Solid understanding of database scaling strategies such as read replicas and sharding.

Architecture Patterns:

• Proficient in designing microservices, event-driven systems using Kafka/RabbitMQ, API Gateway patterns for unified access points, service discovery mechanisms like Consul/Eureka, circuit breaker patterns to handle failures gracefully, and CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation) where applicable.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Has built systems handling 100k-1M+ daily active users in high-growth markets like Saudi Arabia.
• Can independently design full backend architectures from scratch without heavy guidance.
• Thinks critically about scale, reliability, security compliance (GDPR/Local regulations), and modularity.
• Possesses a strong ownership mindset and takes end-to-end responsibility for service lifecycle.
• Experience building super apps or multi-tenant SaaS platforms is highly preferred as we are launching our flagship platform in the region.
