Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance, scalable backend services in Java (Spring Boot), ensuring clean APIs and robust test coverage.
• Maintain and evolve existing Python/Django services, including strategic migrations to Java.
• Develop AI-powered product features utilizing LLMs, RAG for hotel/content data, agentic automations, and intelligent assistants.
• Define prompts, evaluation criteria, and guardrails for AI initiatives; measure quality, latency, and cost in production environments.
• Collaborate closely with front-end engineers and product managers to translate requirements into robust technical designs.
• Optimize existing codebases and queries proactively.
• Create integrations with third-party systems such as payment gateways, channel managers, and AI/LLM providers.
• Owning production services for debugging, monitoring, performance tuning, and incident response.
• Mentor junior engineers on design patterns, code quality, and the responsible use of AI tools.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in Java (core concepts, concurrency, JVM) for web applications.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot/Spring ecosystem to build RESTful JSON APIs.
• Strong SQL/MySQL skills including schema design and query optimization.
• Working knowledge of Python/Django or willingness to work across polyglot stacks.
• Practical experience building with LLMs, GenAI, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector stores, and agent frameworks.
• Demonstrated productivity using AI coding assistants with strong judgment on output verification.
• Expert problem-solving skills in algorithms and data structures.
• Ability to reason about complex distributed systems architecture.
• Comfort working on Linux/Ubuntu, proficient with Git, and familiar with AWS fundamentals.

Good to Have

• Migration experience from Python to Java or polyglot backend operations.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Prior work in travel, hospitality, or high-traffic e-commerce sectors.
