Role Overview

We are seeking a highly technical Senior Software Engineer to join the Compass team. You will design, build, deploy, and support production data products and services for precision agriculture. The team develops software that transforms machine, agronomic, geospatial, logistics, and other complex data into actionable capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement new AWS and Databricks-based solutions to improve scalability and maintainability.
• Design Python REST APIs, Lambda functions, backend processes, and event-driven services.
• Build pipelines that ingest, transform, process, and persist high-volume data (machine, agronomic, geospatial).
• Maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and manage PostgreSQL/Aurora databases.
• Create CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions for automated testing and deployment.
• Troubleshoot production issues across APIs, queues, cloud infrastructure, and integrations.

Essential Skills

You will need excellent Python development skills with a strong background in AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, EventBridge), relational databases like PostgreSQL, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and CI/CD practices. You must be able to independently solve ambiguous problems and work across engineering, data science, and product teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Databricks, Spark, PySpark, SQL, and Delta Lake.
• Familiarity with Docker, authentication patterns (AWS IAM, OAuth), and observability platforms like Datadog.
• Background processing agricultural or high-volume data streams.
