We are seeking an experienced Sr. Applied Science (IC3) professional with deep hands-on expertise in Generative AI and Computer Vision to develop highly sophisticated and accurate data science models. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing secure, scalable, and innovative AI solutions by leveraging cutting-edge techniques in computer vision, large multimodal models, and other GenAI technologies.

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will design, develop, and deploy advanced computer vision solutions utilizing generative AI technologies like large multimodal models, alongside established computer vision techniques such as image classification, object detection, and vision grounding. This individual contributor role is pivotal in building best-in-class computer vision solutions at scale.

This position is ideal for a hands-on data science architect eager to drive innovation and excellence in AI and computer vision. You will collaborate with Product and Engineering managers to influence strategic decisions, lead experimentation, and present findings to senior management. You will construct top-tier LLM/LMM/computer vision solutions tailored for Oracle's business domains at scale. Close partnership with Product Management, Data Labeling, and Engineering teams will be crucial for developing and refining these solutions.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience with computer vision techniques, deep learning, model serving, and a proven ability to strategically address business, product, and technical challenges to shape current and future vision services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop advanced AI models and algorithms, with a focus on large language models, large multimodal models, computer vision, and foundation models.
• Design, implement, and test critical AI service modules/features ensuring correctness, high availability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Champion best practices for testing, benchmarking, and model validation to guarantee reliability and performance.
• Analyze ML models and optimize them for both accuracy and latency.
• Manage large-scale training and production deployment of ML models.
• Take ownership of data analysis, feature engineering, technique selection and implementation, debugging, and maintenance of production models.
• Implement machine learning algorithms or research papers from scratch and deploy them into production.
• Work with large, complex datasets.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical issues/bugs with innovative solutions.
• Contribute to patent and publication filings as a result of solving complex business problems.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineering leads, and annotation/data teams to define requirements, ensure data quality, and manage data/annotation acceptance.
• Leverage Oracle Cloud technology effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. (preferred) or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a related field.

• Ph.D. in computer vision or 2+ years of experience designing, implementing, and deploying computer vision models in production environments.

Expertise in GenAI, LLMs, LMMs, object detection, facial recognition, and image classification.

Strong foundation in deep learning architectures such as CNNs, transformers, diffusion models, and multimodal models.

• Expertise in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Java, or C++.
• Practical experience in ML algorithm design, model training, and production deployment using microservices architecture.
• Practical experience working in a cloud environment: Oracle Cloud (OCI), AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar technologies.
• Experience with or willingness to learn and work in Agile and iterative development processes.
• Strong drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

Identify data science use cases and design scalable solutions for product/service features. Contribute to writing production model code and collaborate with Software Engineering teams for production deployment. Set up necessary environments for experiments and distributed computing. Design, implement, and deploy algorithms and models to production to validate premises and achieve goals. Design and execute offline/online experiments and model performance testing. Work with large, complex datasets. Solve challenging, non-routine analysis problems using advanced analytical methods. Address business/customer problems and questions using statistical and machine learning techniques to achieve business goals and KPIs. Propose innovative solutions to overcome tradeoffs or challenges. Stay current with research and trends in ML algorithms and relevant industry/domain spaces. Conduct research in emerging areas, including efficient neural network development (quantization, pruning, compression) and neural architecture search, as well as novel differentiable compute primitives. May perform other duties as assigned.
