Senior Applied & Data Scientist

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is actively seeking an experienced Senior Applied Scientist (IC3) for its AI Science team based in Bangalore, India. This role is crucial for pioneering state-of-the-art machine learning solutions that address complex real-world challenges at scale. The ideal candidate will possess deep, hands-on expertise in Generative AI and Computer Vision, with a focus on developing highly complex and accurate data science models.

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing secure, scalable, and innovative AI solutions by leveraging cutting-edge techniques in computer vision, large multimodal models (LMMs), and other GenAI technologies. Your responsibilities will include developing and deploying advanced computer vision solutions that integrate generative AI, encompassing areas like image classification, object detection, and vision grounding. This individual contributor role is designed to build best-in-class computer vision solutions at scale.

You will actively contribute to data science architecture design, driving innovation and excellence in AI and computer vision. Collaborating with Product and Engineering managers, you will influence strategic decisions, lead experimentation, and communicate results to senior management. You will build best-in-class LLM/LMM/computer vision solutions tailored for Oracle's business domains and work closely with Product Management, Data Labelling, and Engineering teams to achieve this. The preferred candidate will have extensive experience with computer vision techniques, deep learning, model serving, and a strategic understanding of business, product, and technical challenges to shape current and future vision services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop advanced AI models and algorithms, concentrating on large language models, large multimodal models, computer vision, and foundation models.
• Design, implement, and test critical AI service modules and features, ensuring correctness, high availability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Promote best practices in testing, benchmarking, and model validation to guarantee reliability and performance.
• Analyze ML models and optimize them for accuracy and latency.
• Manage large-scale training and production deployment of ML models.
• Take ownership of data analysis, feature engineering, technique selection and implementation, debugging, and maintenance of production models.
• Implement machine learning algorithms or research papers from concept to production.
• Work with large, complex datasets to derive insights and build models.
• Proactively identify technical issues and bugs, offering innovative solutions.
• Contribute to patent and publication filings as a result of solving complex business problems.
• Partner closely with product managers, engineering leads, and annotation/data teams to define requirements, ensure data quality, and manage data/annotation acceptance.
• Leverage Oracle Cloud technology (OCI) in your work.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (preferred) or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a related field.
• Ph.D. in computer vision or 2+ years of proven experience in designing, implementing, and deploying computer vision models in production environments.
• Expertise in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Large Multimodal Models (LMMs), object detection, facial recognition, and image classification.
• Strong foundational knowledge of deep learning architectures, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Transformers, Diffusion Models, and Multimodal Models.
• Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Java, or C++.
• Practical experience in ML algorithm design, model training, and production deployment utilizing microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments like Oracle Cloud (OCI), AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with or a strong willingness to learn and work within Agile and iterative development processes.
• A strong drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
• Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

You will identify data science use cases and design scalable solutions that can be integrated as product/service features. Contribute to writing production model code and collaborate with Software Engineering teams for deployment. Set up environments for experiments and distributed computing. Design and implement algorithms, train models, and deploy them to production to validate hypotheses and achieve goals. Execute offline/online experiments and model performance testing. Address complex business/customer problems and questions using statistical and machine learning techniques, aiming to achieve business goals and KPIs. Develop innovative solutions for tradeoffs or challenges encountered by the team. Stay current with the latest research and trends in ML algorithms and related domains. Conduct research in emerging areas, including efficient neural network development (quantization, pruning, compression, neural architecture search) and novel differentiable compute primitives. May perform other duties as assigned.
