Senior AI Engineer

JazzX AI is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join our team in Bengaluru, India. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in building, scaling, and operating the core AI platform that powers our entire product suite. This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor position where you will own critical AI platform components, including model orchestration, retrieval systems, agent execution, evaluation, and guardrails. You will develop and maintain high-quality Python code that forms the backbone of these systems, collaborating closely with Staff engineers to deliver robust, production-grade AI capabilities. While your work will ultimately support our Builder Studio and client applications, your primary focus will be on the platform layer where AI intelligence is designed, validated, and managed.

Key Responsibilities

Core AI Platform Development

• Design and implement AI platform services, SDKs, and libraries in Python to orchestrate foundation model invocation and routing, prompting, structured outputs, and tool calling.
• Develop agent execution and state management capabilities.
• Build clean, well-typed, and testable Python APIs for consumption by downstream teams.

Retrieval, Context & Memory Systems

• Implement and optimize retrieval pipelines, including vector search, hybrid search, and re-ranking, primarily in Python.
• Develop context management logic to efficiently handle token limits, cost constraints, and relevance.
• Enhance grounding, citation, and traceability mechanisms through robust platform code.

Evaluation, Observability & Guardrails

• Implement evaluation pipelines, metrics, and harnesses in Python to quantitatively measure model faithfulness and relevance, leveraging industry-standard frameworks (e.g., Arize Phoenix, DeepEval, or LangSmith).
• Integrate observability for latency, cost, and failure modes using logs, metrics, and traces.
• Build deterministic guardrails and validation layers to mitigate hallucinations, unsafe outputs, and prompt injection.

Platform Reliability & Production Readiness

• Write production-grade Python code with comprehensive testing (unit, integration) and clear error handling.
• Debug and resolve production issues related to AI behavior, performance, and correctness.
• Contribute to operational playbooks and participate in on-call rotations for AI platform services.

Collaboration with Platform Consumers

• Partner with Staff AI Engineers, Builder Studio teams, and application teams to understand and fulfill requirements.
• Ensure the platform provides clear, safe, and composable Python abstractions.
• Incorporate feedback from real-world usage into platform improvements.

Engineering Excellence & Mentorship

• Uphold high standards for Python code quality, readability, and maintainability.
• Actively participate in code and design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers on applied AI development and Python best practices.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in applied AI, AI engineering, or AI platform development.
• Strong proficiency in Python, with proven experience in building and maintaining large, production-grade codebases.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying AI-powered systems in production environments.
• Deep familiarity with AI foundation models (LLMs, multimodal models) and prompt engineering techniques.
• Solid understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, and hybrid retrieval strategies.
• Working knowledge of agent frameworks and orchestration patterns.
• Experience with tools and frameworks such as OpenAI SDK, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or equivalents.
• Hands-on experience with AI evaluation and experimentation frameworks for systematic testing of RAG and agentic outputs.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.

Preferred

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including API design, concurrency concepts, and distributed systems principles.
