Scientist - Process Automation

ABB's India Corporate Research Center (INCRC) is seeking a talented Scientist to contribute to our Process Automation Business. Reporting to the Research Department Manager, you will be instrumental in exploring and implementing cutting-edge software engineering and machine learning technologies for process industries.
INCRC is a dynamic environment where research, development, engineering, and service teams collaborate under one roof, fostering innovation and rapid market entry. We focus on creating intellectual property, enhancing ABB's offerings, and collaborating with external partners.
Your Responsibilities:
- Research and develop software engineering and machine learning technologies for the process automation business.
- Identify use cases and gather requirements for data-driven solutions in collaboration with ABB's business divisions and end customers.
- Implement research ideas and build functional prototypes in areas such as software engineering and machine learning, working alongside other researchers and business counterparts.
- Evaluate design approaches and architectural solutions for machine learning-based systems.
- Optimize algorithms for efficient utilization of processing units (CPU/GPU/TPU) and distributed clusters.
- Prepare research proposals, present novel ideas, and secure research projects.
- Communicate project results effectively to both technical experts and business stakeholders.
- Generate intellectual property through invention disclosures and publications in scientific conferences and journals.
- Uphold ABB's core values of safety and integrity in all actions.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D./M.Tech/M.S. from a reputable university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience with a Ph.D. or 4-6 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred), C/C++, and C#.
- Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle, particularly utilizing LLM/AI techniques.
- Demonstrated ability in building functional prototypes.
- Excellent English communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external partners, including academia.
