Role Overview:
Join our team at Flying Wedge Defence & Aerospace in Bengaluru, India, to build cutting-edge, long-range, low-latency communication systems for UAVs and autonomous platforms. As an RF & Communications Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, testing, and optimizing critical RF links for telemetry, command, video, and inter-vehicle networking, contributing directly to the future of defense technology.
Responsibilities:
- Design and integrate robust RF communication systems for aerial and ground applications.
- Develop and manage telemetry, command, payload data, and video links with high reliability.
- Perform detailed link budgeting, accurate range estimation, and strategic antenna selection.
- Optimize communication link performance for minimal latency, maximum bandwidth, and exceptional reliability.
- Implement advanced error correction, efficient packetization, and retransmission strategies.
- Develop and deploy comprehensive link monitoring, health reporting, and failover mechanisms.
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation of RF system performance in real-world field conditions.
- Address electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) challenges, including grounding and interference mitigation techniques.
- Support the development of multi-vehicle networking and sophisticated relay systems.
Required Skills:
- A strong foundational understanding of RF principles and wireless communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience with radios, modems, antennas, and RF front-end components.
- Proficiency with communication interfaces such as UART, Ethernet, and SPI, along with network stack knowledge.
- Solid understanding of link budget calculations, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), noise analysis, modulation techniques, and coding theory.
- Experience in debugging complex RF systems using spectrum analyzers or Software Defined Radios (SDRs).
Good to Have:
- Experience with SDR platforms like HackRF, USRP, or similar.
- Familiarity with mesh networking or multi-hop communication architectures.
- Experience in designing and implementing video transmission systems.
- Background in UAV, robotics, or defense systems engineering.
You will build:
- Reliable telemetry and command links for autonomous systems.
- High-performance video and payload data links.
- An advanced RF health and link management system.
- A scalable multi-vehicle and relay communication architecture.
