Research Scientist

NielsenIQ is seeking a data-driven Research Scientist to join our applied research and innovation team in Chennai, TN. This role requires a strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, and the operationalization of AI/ML for process automation. You will analyze data, research optimal techniques, and develop, test, support, and deliver proof-of-concepts to address complex, large-scale real-world problems. Responsibilities include developing and applying machine learning innovations with minimal supervision, understanding stakeholder requirements, and clearly communicating findings. You will conduct feasibility studies, analyze data for appropriate solutions, and ensure ML solutions are simple, scalable, reproducible, and maintainable. High-quality standards for data and software development are essential, along with collaboration for integrating and deploying ML solutions. As a team member, you will foster motivation and build effective working relationships.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
• Significant experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and other AI domains.
• Proven experience with large datasets, production-level code, and ML solution operationalization.
• Hands-on experience with Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), ML models (PyTorch or TensorFlow), and evaluations.
• Ability to interpret scientific literature and translate concepts into functional code.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills.
• Proactive, constructive, intellectually curious, and persistent approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, with a strong ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, Git, pandas, Dask, Polars, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, Docker, and Databricks.

Desired Skills

• Master's degree or specialized courses in AI/ML; a PhD in a scientific field is a plus.
• Experience with MLOps tools (MLFlow, Prefect) and cloud-based AI/ML solution deployment (Azure preferred).
• Understanding and practical application of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI, including prompt engineering and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Experience with Robotic Process Automation, Time Series Forecasting, and Predictive Modeling.
• Practical knowledge of databases such as SQL, Elasticsearch, Pinecone, and FAISS.
• Prior experience in the retail, consumer, e-commerce, or FMCG sectors.
