Release Operations Engineer

About the Role

PubMatic is seeking a Release Operations Engineer to join the Release Operations team in Pune. This role involves owning the planning and execution of software releases across various environments. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, DC Operations, SRE, and other teams to ensure safe, low-risk deployments. Your responsibilities will include improving release processes, runbooks, checklists, and dashboards for continuous improvement, and implementing tooling to enhance reliability and reduce deployment issues. This position is ideal for individuals who can effectively balance rapid delivery with production stability.

What You'll Do

• Manage application deployments, optimize deployment processes, and ensure consistency and reliability across development and production environments.
• Oversee application configurations and maintain inventory of deployment servers.
• Monitor application health and performance post-release, and respond to/troubleshoot release- and operations-related incidents.
• Act as a liaison between Release Managers, Operations, and Engineering stakeholders, communicating release status and issues. Facilitate post-mortem reviews and retrospectives to identify improvement areas.
• Create and maintain deployment procedures and associated documentation.
• Set up Linux servers, install applications, perform server rebuilds, and manage clusters.
• Provide platform support for cross-functional delivery of large-scale, complex projects involving multiple internal and external teams.
• Ensure security measures are in place and address vulnerabilities through required upgrades and patches.
• Participate in 24/5 rotational weekday shifts, including nights, and provide on-call support.

We'd Love for You to Have

• 2-5 years of experience in Release Operations, managing CI/CD pipelines, application deployments, configuration/change management, secrets management, and application support.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, Shell scripting, Python, and Ansible automation, with an AI mindset.
• Experience with Docker and related tools such as Kubernetes, GIT, Grafana, and Prometheus.
• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Terraform is essential.
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools such as Nagios, ELK, and PagerDuty.
• Basic understanding of networking and load balancing.
• Experience designing, implementing, and testing Disaster Recovery plans for deployment failures.
• Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with highly technical software/systems engineers.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with both on-premise and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP).
• Experience with distributed systems and related technologies is a plus.

Qualification

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer Science / Information Technology) or an equivalent degree from a reputable institute/university.
