QA/QC Engineer
Full Job Description
Varya Tech Private Limited is seeking a detail-oriented QA/QC Engineer – Oceanographic Systems to join their Varya Buoy department in Ekkaduthangal, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This permanent, in-person role offers a unique opportunity to ensure the quality, reliability, and field performance of oceanographic buoy systems deployed offshore. You will play a critical role in bridging design and real-world execution, from fabrication checks to vessel-based deployment and post-retrieval analysis, directly impacting data credibility and system survivability in open-sea conditions.
Why Join This Role
- End-to-end ownership: Design validation → offshore deployment → data QC
- Real vessel operations, not desk QA. Approximately 30-40% offshore travel annually.
- Influence design improvements using field data from deployments.
- Clear growth path to Lead QA/QC - Marine Systems within 3 years.
- Offshore allowances + Outstation Allowances as per company policy.
- Extensive General & Group Health Insurance Policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- QA/QC & Fabrication Oversight: Develop Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), inspection checklists, and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)/Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for buoy hulls, pressure housings, acoustic releases, power systems, and data loggers. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and marine standards.
- Offshore Deployment & Field QA: Mobilize as QA/QC lead on vessels. Conduct pre-deployment validation including mooring load tests, buoyancy checks, watertight integrity, and telemetry. Supervise deck operations and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Permit to Work (PTW), and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols during deployment and retrieval.
- Post-Deployment & Data Quality: Lead inspections for biofouling, mechanical wear, and damage. Secure raw data, perform first-level QC, and flag anomalies to the engineering team.
- Continuous Improvement: Review designs for open-ocean survivability. Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA)/Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for failures, data gaps, and system losses. Standardize field procedures and QA templates.
Essentials:
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.)/Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Ocean, Marine, Mechanical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in marine QA/QC, offshore operations, or oceanographic instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of mooring dynamics, pressure housing tests, and sensors such as CTD, ADCP, and wave/metocean systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ability to review AutoCAD/SolidWorks designs, and experience with Excel-based ITPs.
- Medical fitness for extended offshore deployments.
Strongly Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with buoy or mooring systems.
- Exposure to DNV/API marine standards, telemetry systems, and data logging.
- Basic proficiency in MATLAB/Python for QC analysis.
- Prior vessel experience on research ships, offshore surveys, or in Oil & Gas or marine operations (added advantage).
Impact: Your QA contributions will ensure reliable ocean data, safer offshore operations, and longer-lasting systems. This role is based in Ekkaduthangal, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
