Propulsion Engineer - Level III - Catalyx Space - Ahmedabad, India

Catalyx is at the forefront of developing next-generation entry systems for space exploration. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Level III Propulsion Engineer to join our innovative team in Ahmedabad, India. This critical role involves leading the design, development, and integration of our advanced propulsion architecture, encompassing tanks, valves, and system integration. You will be instrumental in guiding the propulsion effort from initial concept through rigorous testing, ensuring our systems meet and exceed all mission requirements. Responsibilities:

• Oversee and own the propulsion system architecture and overall design.
• Lead the development and implementation of advanced valve technologies.
• Collaborate closely with the mechanical engineering team on Compressed Gas Pressure Vessel (COPV) design and validation processes.
• Define, document, and review critical requirements for tanks, plumbing, and system integration.
• Provide expert direction and technical guidance to the propulsion team on design, testing, and validation methodologies.
• Manage the complete lifecycle of propulsion hardware, from conceptualization and design reviews to qualification and seamless integration into flight systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in propulsion system design and testing.
• Proven experience with fluid systems, high-performance valves, and intricate feed architectures.
• Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and design principles for additive manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to perform meticulous material selection and guide critical manufacturing trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience in selecting appropriate sensors for specific propellant chemistries and challenging test conditions.
• Expert proficiency in SolidWorks for CAD modeling, complex assemblies, and detailed drafting.
• Proficiency in employing simulation methods such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for propulsion and fluid systems analysis.
• A track record of successfully leading hardware development projects from inception to completion.

Preferred Skills:

• Prior experience where your designs or hardware have successfully flown in space missions.
• Experience with earth-storable, non-toxic bipropellant propulsion systems is highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience setting up and conducting static fire tests.
• Familiarity with established safety standards and best practices for propulsion systems.
• Exceptional communication and team leadership capabilities.
• Exposure to or experience with algorithmic engineering design methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Flexibility to work extended hours and/or weekends when required to meet project deadlines.
