Full Job Description
Propulsion Engineer - II at Catalyx Space in Ahmedabad, India
Catalyx Space is at the forefront of developing next-generation entry systems for space exploration. As a Propulsion Engineer (Level II), you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of our entry system propulsion modules. This hands-on position involves working directly with engine development and system plumbing from conceptualization through to final testing. You will collaborate closely with senior engineering staff to deliver a flight-ready propulsion system, contributing to groundbreaking advancements in space technology. If you are passionate about propulsion engineering and eager to make a significant impact in the burgeoning Indian space sector, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end development of propulsion hardware, including design, prototyping, and hot-fire testing.
- Design and implement comprehensive plumbing layouts for propulsion feed systems and overall integration.
- Develop and engineer data acquisition (DAQ) and critical safety systems for propulsion testing.
- Provide expert support for the integration of valves, tanks, and fluid lines.
- Systematically troubleshoot, iterate on designs, and deliver tested propulsion hardware that is ready for seamless system integration.
- Design and develop robust static fire stands and associated test infrastructure for the validation of propulsion systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in propulsion, fluid systems, or thermal systems engineering.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with thruster or engine testing and the development of plumbing layouts.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for CAD modeling, assembly design, and detailed part creation.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and design principles for additive manufacturing (3D printing).
- Ability to perform detailed material selection and contribute to hardware trade-off analyses.
- Familiarity with propulsion analysis tools such as NASA CEA or equivalent software.
- Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, particularly within laboratory and test environments.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous flight heritage, with a track record of contributing to hardware that has successfully flown in space.
- Exposure to and understanding of earth-storable, non-toxic bipropellant engine systems.
- Familiarity with propulsion instrumentation and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Experience with engine testing workflows and optimizing plumbing for performance and reliability.
- Exposure to algorithmic engineering design methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information.
- Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours or weekends when project demands require.
