Program Associate

The Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer (Program Associate) to contribute to the development of open-source digital platforms and geospatial tools across our Programs: Food Systems, Land Use, Water Resources, Mobility Solutions, Urban Development (Cities), and Energy Transition.

Key Responsibilities:

• Platform Engineering (60%): Build and maintain full-stack web applications using JavaScript frameworks like React or Vue.js with Python/Node.js backends. Develop RESTful APIs for environmental data integration, implement automated tests, write documentation, and deploy containerized applications on AWS/GCP.
• 
  AI & Research Support (30%): Integrate AI and ML tools into workflows including LLM APIs and geospatial classification models. Build lightweight utilities like document analysis bots or RAG pipelines using open-source frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• 
  Collaboration (10%): Work with UX designers, program managers, and senior engineers to translate needs into technical requirements. Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to the community through documentation of APIs and features for internal/external use.

What You Will Need:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Geoinformatics with 2–4 years of professional experience (including internships/projects).
• Proficiency in JavaScript (React/Vue.js) and Python for full-stack web development.
• Familiarity with geospatial concepts/tools: PostGIS, GDAL, GeoJSON, and mapping libraries like Leaflet or Maplibre GL is a strong advantage.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), RESTful API development, Git/GitHub, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).
