Price Policy Product
The Price Policy product is central to Tesco's mission of ensuring pricing integrity, compliance, and delivering consistent value. It serves as the core engine for validating store prices and promotions against legal requirements, trading standards, and Tesco's internal business rules before they reach customers. This automated system alleviates the operational burden on commercial teams, allowing them to focus on strategic pricing initiatives while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and legality at scale. The Price Policy Product Manager will have a unique opportunity to influence a critical platform impacting millions of customers and thousands of stores, operating at the intersection of compliance, retail operations, and pricing strategy to drive safer, smarter, and more efficient pricing.
Responsibilities
Reporting to a Lead Product Manager, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Full product ownership and management of internal/external stakeholders to drive product strategy and execution.
- Formulating product vision, strategy, and roadmaps, aligning strategic priorities and dependencies with stakeholders.
- Defining key success measures (OKRs) and monitoring product performance and adoption.
- Leveraging domain knowledge in price management to identify and analyze new opportunities, refining and prioritizing requirements.
- Planning and coordinating significant product efforts involving multiple products and delivery teams.
- Creating and maintaining a prioritized product backlog, writing user stories, and grooming the backlog with the team.
- Steering sprint and release planning sessions with engineering counterparts to maximize business value delivery.
- Driving improvements in product performance, service levels, quality, reliability, and security.
- Leading discovery work for minimum viable products (MVPs), including prototyping and validation with stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Assisting the team in breaking down complex work into epics and stories for faster, incremental value delivery.
- Identifying and removing team impediments, proactively flagging risks and delays to leadership.
- Accountability for product performance and adoption, aiming to increase the customer base.
- Working collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating organization, pragmatism, and a proactive approach to positive change, with a strong customer focus.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of retail price management and innovative thinking, with the ability to derive data-driven decisions for price policy product capabilities. Experience in building customer-loved products and prior retail pricing experience are advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate complex product strategy in terms of consumer and business value.
- Experience and understanding of agile methodologies, ceremonies, and technology stacks.
- Proficiency in defining user stories, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and estimation.
- Conceptual understanding of price management across multiple channels (web, mobile, tablets, store apps) and geographies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience managing work from external agencies to ensure high standards.
- Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Proven success in tackling unstructured problems, defining hypotheses, creating MVPs, running experiments, and analyzing results.
- Solid understanding of product management best practices, methodologies, and strong technical acumen.
- Technical competence to understand solution contexts, influence technical decisions, and assist engineering with work complexity estimation.
- Understanding of technical debt impact and value of tech upgrades, with the ability to prioritize these with technology counterparts.
- Strong prioritization and decision-making skills, with a track record of sound business judgment and resource allocation.
- Prior product management experience in Retail, particularly in grocery price management.
- Familiarity with working with multi-cultural, geographically distributed teams.
- Flexibility, strong planning and organizational skills, responsiveness, creativity, and a self-starter attitude.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with peers and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills across all organizational levels.
- A tenacious, can-do, will-do mentality.
